MYSTERY THEATER
I've always been partial to the Sam Gopal version (sung by Lemmy of Motorhead fame).
Brian Auger,Julie Driscoll and Trinity did a version of Season of the Witch which is worth a listen. It's on the CD Open.
According to Led Zep's bio, they used to start most practice sessions with SotW. I wonder if they every recorded it...
Also covered by Richard Thompson on the Crossing Jordan soundtrack CD.
Another great cover from "Situation Out of Control by The Stone Coyotes... http://grooveshark.com/#!/search/song?q=The+Stone+Coyotes+Season+Of+The+Witch
Boston band "Heretix" did this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Trpl2DJcjo
There is Dr. John & The Blues Brothers Band on the 'Blues Brothers 2000" soundtrack album. And some obscure ones:Coupla Prog on 'Death is a Great Gambler'Pesky Gee on 'Exclamation Mark'
I remember there being a cool stoner rock version on one of those "Sucking the 70s" cover comps Small Stone put out, ah yes:Gideon Smith & the Dixie Damnedhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDBHTCFc5IY
There is also a German prog rock band called Coupla Prog who did a version on their 1970 album, Death is a Great Gambler.
